France

Bonjour and welcome to France. This stunning country is the perfect place to enjoy some delicious food, taste world’s best wines, visit cozy villages and so much more. It has a beautiful coastline, with gorgeous beaches and a super interesting culture. It is therefore no surprise that France is one of the most famous destinations in Europe

Best time to visit

In general the best time to visit France is from April to September/October, when the weather is nice and pleasantly warm. France is a big country so there are some regional variations in temperatures: a mediterranean climate in the south and wetter weather in the north.

During the peak summer months (June to August) you can expect large crowds of tourists and high season price rates. So if you like to go sightseeing with nice weather and avoid the crowds, we recommend you to go there April or May.

During the winter months you can go skiing in the French alps in the south-east of the country.

Practical

The official language in France is French. English is not very widely spoken in France, only in the tourist areas.

The official currency in France is Euro (€) and you can pay by card almost anywhere. If not, you will find an ATM in every village where you can withdraw money.

France is a member of the European Union and Schengen Area, making it easy for travelers from other EU countries to visit without a visa.

This also means that the European roaming regulation applies here and you can therefore use your mobile data if you come from another EU country.

Tipping in French restaurants and cafés is not expected. The price of the service is included in the bill and the waiters are directly paid with that amount (generally around 15% of the total cost). If you are pleased with your experience, it is acceptable to tip 5% of the total price of the bill.

Tap water is perfectly safe to drink in France.

The power plug sockets are of type E. The standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz.

The time zone in France in summer is GMT+2 and in winter GMT+1.
