The hike

To start the hike, you start walking to the upper pole of the ski lift. From here, you can follow a clear path in the direction of the Stornappstinden. The first part of the hike is pretty easy and not steep. The trail turns to the left and wraps around the smaller peak in front of you, to the higher peak of the Stornappstinden.

Then, the trail gets a lot steeper, straight to the top of the Stornappstinden. Most of the elevation gain is done in the second part of the hike. Some parts are rocky, other parts are sandy and slippery. The trail is not marked, but the path is most of the times very clear. Sometimes it split up for a short time, but eventually you always end up at the same trail. After the steep ascent, the path flattens out again over the summit plateau. From here, it is only a short distance uphill, but less steep, until you reach the top. It is a short but though and very steep hike, rewarding you with one of the most beautiful 360° views of the Lofoten.

When to hike

The best time to hike the Stornappstinden trail is during summer/late summer, from Mid June to the end of September (until it starts to snow). There might be snow on the summit until mid June. It is not possible to hike up Stornappstinden during winter time.

As there are some steep and slippery sections, this hike is not recommended in bad weather conditions. It is best to do this hike on a sunny and clear day or during a clear midnight sun night.

How to get there

The trail to Stornappstinden starts close to the village of Napp, on the eastern fringes of Flakstadøy. The starting point is at a small ski lift on the northern side of Nappskaret. You can park your car at the ski lift or at various parking zones along the E10 at Nappskaret. On Google Maps, you can find the start of the hiking trail here.
