Best Time to visit

The best time to visit Norway is during summer, between May and September. During this period the weather will be most pleasant.

In the high season, from July to August, the most famous places of interest can be very busy. May is usually the driest month but there is a good chance that certain hikes and roads are still closed.

Hiking season starts in June. To our opinion this is also the best month to explore Norway. This is also the period that you can see the midnight sun.

Practical

The official language in Norway is Norwegian. In addition most of the Norwegian population also speaks English.

The official currency in Norway is Norwegian Krone (NOK) and you can pay by card almost anywhere. If not, you will find an ATM in almost every village where you can withdraw money and in most rural areas there will be at least one place where you can withdraw money, such as at a kiosk, grocery shop, or petrol station.

Norway is not a member of the European Union but is part of the Schengen Area. It does have a relation to the EU based on the EEA Agreement, making it easy for travelers from other EU countries to visit without a visa.

This also means that the European roaming regulation applies here and you can therefore use your mobile data if you come from another EU country.

In the biggest part of Norway, tipping is not common. Except in bars and restaurants where the locals tip when they are happy with the service or food. If you liked the service or food and you do want to tip, it is usually within 5-15% of the total amount of the bill. But remember that tipping is not expected.

Tap water is safe to drink all over Norway.

In Norway there are two power plug types: Type C and F. They operate on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.

The time zone in Norway is in summer GMT+2 and in winter GMT+1.
