Cameras

Cameras for travel photography

We use two full-frame cameras to capture our travels: primarily the Sony A7R III and additionally the Sony A7C. These are both very comfortable to hold, compact, and lightweight. This is very important on hikes, in your carry-on luggage on a plane, or in any other situation.

Action Cameras

During diving, cycling, climbing, … we use our action cameras. The most frequent one is the DJI Osmo Action 4. In addition, we also have the GoPro Hero 8 Black Edition and GoPro Max, which can help us in specific situations!

Pocket-size cameras

We don’t always have our cameras with us, and sometimes you want to quickly take a photo or video. That’s where the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and the smartphone come in handy. With the Osmo Pocket 3, you can capture steady footage while on the move. Additionally, Sarah uses an iPhone 13 Pro and Cédric uses an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Lenses

Favorite lenses

Our favorite lenses for travel photography are the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 and Sony 16-35mm f/4. By carrying only these two lenses in our camera bag, we cover a large part of our desired shots.

More specific lenses

Sometimes you come across places where the range doesn’t quite fit, and you need specific lenses.

For true portrait shots, we use the Sony 85mm f/1.8. On safari, you can find us with a Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 to capture wildlife effectively. A fisheye lens like the Samyang 8mm f/2.8 can also be a lot of fun!

Drones

Lightweight Drone

Our DJI Mini 4 Pro, weighing just 249g, is a fantastic device to carry along. It offers good quality, reliability, and quick deployment in the air.

We use our FPV less frequently, but it’s fun to play with! (Although it’s an art to fly it.)

Storage & Software

Storage

It’s important to make backups at appropriate times, for which the Sandisk SSD 4TB drives are ideal! Compact and faster than lightning. We also use the LaCie Rugged Mini 4TB hard drives

Our cameras are equipped with 256GB Sandisk Extreme Pro cards with speeds up to 300MB/s. Our action cameras, drones, etc., use Sandisk Extreme Pro Micro-SD 256GB cards.

Software

Actually, we do a lot on one software package, the Adobe suite. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Lightroom Classic are familiar tools for us. For editing reels for Instagram, we usually use the VN app.

Bags & Accessories

Bags

We use DoucheBags backpacks as camera bags. For backpacking, the Aircontact bags from Deuter are excellent. And to keep something safe during a flight, our Pelicase 1510 is our reliable suitcase.

Tripod

90% of the time, we use our carbon tripod from Sirui, the AT-125, which is easy to carry and quick to set up. The remaining 10% of the time, we use the Sirui T-2204XL, which due to its heavier weight, is more resistant to wind.

Other essentials

Lens filters are indispensable for us! Something else that can be handy at times is our Nissin i60 flash.
