Lapland

Lapland is mostly known as the perfect winter wonderland destination, with a lot of unique experiences like snowmobiling, feeding reindeer, and husky rides. But Lapland’s nature is so stunning that even in summer it should be the perfect destination for real nature lovers.

Important: Even though the name suggests otherwise, Lapland is not a real country in itself. Lapland is a vast region, spread over the most northern part of Norway, Sweden, Finland and even a small part of Russia. It is also a cultural region traditionally inhabited by the Sami. We have visited Finnish Lapland and wrote about this part of Lapland in more detail in our Lapland guides.

What is the best time to visit Lapland?

The best time to visit Finnish Lapland depends on what you want to do and see. For landscapes covered in a thick layer of snow, the best time is from November to March. Know that during this period you only get 4 to 5 hours of light a day (between 10 am and 2 pm), but there are plenty of activities possible when it’s already dark.
