What to Wear to Lapland
Everyone knows that it is cold in winter in Lapland, even freezing. The lowest temperatures can be expected between the holidays and mid-February. To protect yourself against the cold in wintery Lapland, there are 3 essential things: layers, layers and more layers.
The air between the different layers keeps you warm and dry. This makes it easier for you to maintain your body temperature. The different layers also make it easier to adapt to changes in temperature. Still too cold? Put on an extra layer or two. Entering a nice warm restaurant? You can easily take off a few layers.
- Your bottom layer should consist of an insulating layer of thermal underwear or wool. This ensures that your body heat is maintained as much as possible.
- With the middle layers you can determine your number of layers. You can therefore adapt to the ambient temperatures by taking off or putting on an extra layer.
- Your outer layer should be something that is wind and waterproof. If you go with an agency, you will receive a thick thermal overall. If you organize your trip to Lapland yourself, you can sometimes rent it somewhere or make sure you have a good wind and waterproof ski suit.
- Always make sure that your head and face stay warm with a warm hat and a thick scarf or buff.
- It is best to keep your hands warm with mittens. Thick gloves are also possible, but mittens are warmer because your fingers can warm each other.
- To keep your feet warm, it is best to wear woolen socks with a thin pair of socks underneath and a good pair of waterproof winter or snow boots.
Besides layers, you obviously need to take a lot of other things with you to Lapland. With this packing list you have all the essentials you need in Lapland.
