Trekking through the Tetebatu Rice Terraces

Tetebatu is a lovely village, located in central Lombok. It is often referred to as the Ubud of Lombok, because you will also find beautiful rice terraces, a monkey forest and some nice waterfalls in the area. The difference with the rice fields in Ubud on Bali is that these rice fields are really used to provide the people with rice and not just for tourism. That is why you can only visit these fields with a guide during a tour. We highly recommend such a tour because it is simply super interesting! In this blog post, you can read everything you need to know about trekking through the Tetebatu Rice Terraces.

About Tetebatu and the Rice terraces

Tetebatu is mainly known for its lush green rice terraces and paddies. Because of that, it is also known as the Ubud of Lombok. The difference with the rice fields in Ubud on Bali is that these rice fields are really used to provide the people with rice and not just for tourism. That’s why you can only visit these rice fields during a guided trekking. Another difference with Ubud is that Tetebatu is much less touristy and therefore feels quieter, more authentic and more untouched.
And there is more to Tetebatu than only the rice terraces that your guide can show you. You can find many other products and crops locally grown in Tetebatu, that you can buy directly from the locals. The village is also home to some beautiful waterfall and a monkey forest, where you can see the more unique black monkeys.

During the trekking through the Tetebatu rice terraces, you stroll through the rice terrace, clamber along the rice field ledges, visit the most famous waterfall in the area and explore the monkey forest where you have the chance to see black monkeys.

Along the way, our guide Edi told us some interesting information about the process of rice production and many other plants and fruits that we passed along the way. We thought it was a super fun and interesting experience!

Tip: The best local guide for the Tetebatu Rice fields? That must be Edi. You can contact him on Whatsapp on +6282339168368 and send him greetings from Sarah & Cédric from Coordinotes. You can find more information about his tour on Tripadvisor.

Best Time to Visit

For the best weather, the best time to visit Tetebatu is from May through October, during dry season. June to August is peak tourist season, so it can be a bit busier during this period.

Rainy season starts from November until April. During this period, you can expect short periods of rain almost everyday. This has the advantage that the landscapes are more beautiful and greener. For the best chance of good weather and beautiful green landscapes, we recommend going just after the rainy season, at the start of the dry season, during May.
