About Tetebatu
Tetebatu is known as the green heart of Lombok because of its lush green rice terraces and paddies. It is therefore also referred to as the Ubud of Lombok.
The difference with Ubud on Bali is that the Tetebatu rice terraces are really used to provide the people with rice and not just for tourism. That’s why you can only visit these rice fields during a guided trekking. Besides rice, you can find many other products and crops locally grown here, that you can buy directly from the locals.
Another difference is that the village of Tetebatu is much less touristy and therefore feels quieter, more authentic, and more untouched. And there is even more to Tetebatu than only the rice terraces. That’s why we think Tetebatu is one of the best places to visit in Lombok.

Tetebatu Rice terraces and Trekking
The only way to see the Tetebatu Rice Terraces is during a guided hike. However, that’s not the only reason why you should opt for this. During this trek through the Tetebatu rice terraces, you stroll through the rice terraces and clamber along the rice field ledges but you also visit the famous Tetebatu waterfall in the area and explore the Tetebatu monkey forest where you have the chance to see unique black monkeys. So, if there’s one thing you should do in Tetebatu, it is a guided trekking.
Along the way, our guide Edi told us some interesting information about the process of rice production and many other plants and fruits that we passed along the way. We thought it was a super fun and interesting experience! On top of that, you see several highlights of Tetebatu during one tour.
Tip: The best local guide for the Tetebatu rice terraces? That must be Edi. You can contact him on Whatsapp on +6282339168368 and send him greetings from Sarah & Cédric from Coordinotes. You can find more information about his tour on Tripadvisor.
Interested in a Mount Rinjani trek? Then Edi is also your man!
Practical
A Tetebatu Rice Terraces tour with Edi costs 150.000 IDR per person
The whole tour takes around 3-4hours of walking.

How to get there
To easiest and cheapest way to reach Tetebatu, is by renting a scooter, but know that the ride can be long from the major tourist areas on Lombok, such as Senggigi and Mataram. Prices for a scooter vary from 60.000 IDR to 100.00O IDR per 24 hours. Alternatively, you can hire a private driver to bring you to the village and back. You can combine a visit to Tetebatu with a visit to the Benang Stokel and Kelambu waterfall.
Another option is joining a day trip from Kuta, Senggigi, or Mataram, including transportation and a guide.

Best Time to Visit
For the best weather, the best time to visit Tetebatu Lombok is from May through October, during dry season. June to August is peak tourist season in Indonesia, so it can be a bit busier during this period.
Rainy season starts from November until April. During this period, you can expect short periods of rain almost every day. This has the advantage that the landscapes are more beautiful and greener. For the best chance of good weather and beautiful green landscapes, we recommend going just after the rainy season, at the start of the dry season, during May.

Where to stay
Usually, a day trip is enough to see the best of Tetebatu, including the Tetebatu rice terraces. If you would like to visit more waterfalls than the ones you see during the tour, hike up Mount Rinjani or you just want to enjoy this cozy village a bit more, there are a few cheap and basic accommodations in town.
