1. Relax on a Black Beach
In Amed, you find a long stretch of black sandy beach. The water here is crystal clear and has an ideal temperature for swimming. There are many fisherboats docked on the beach, but there’s plenty of space to find a great spot to enjoy the beach. You will also find many bars along the beach where you can buy drinks, and food and relax on the bean bags. The most famous beaches are Amed Beach, Jemeluk Beach, Lipah Beach, and Selang Beach. It is the perfect place to enjoy some quiet and relaxed time on the beach, compared to the bustling beaches in the more touristy Canggu or Uluwatu.

2. Scuba Diving in Amed
Amed is without a doubt one of the best places to go diving in Bali. It is often even the main reason why people go to Amed. Not only will you find crystal clear water and colorful corals, but also a wide variety of sea creatures and even shipwrecks to discover.
USAT Liberty Wreck
The most famous wreck in Amed for diving is the USAT Liberty Wreck in Tulamben. The wreck has fallen apart into several parts and is gradually being taken over by colorful corals. The story about this shipwreck is that it was hit by a Japanese torpedo and then was stranded on the beach of Tulamben. In 1963, the ship was pushed back into the ocean to the place where it lies now, by the eruption of Mount Agung.
It is one of the most popular dive sites in Amed, so we recommend going early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the dive crowd.

3. Snorkeling in Amed
If diving is not for you, there’s another way to enjoy the beautiful underwater world of Amed. Snorkeling is another awesome thing to do in Amed, as there are many nice snorkeling spots just a few meters from the shore. You can snorkel with sea turtles and explore ancient temples and colorful reefs. If you don’t have your own snorkels, you can rent them down the beach.
It is possible to go diving at diving spots, such as the USAT Liberty Shipwreck. Some other nice snorkel spots are Jemeluk Bay, Lipah Beach, and Pyramids Snorkel spot.
You can also join various snorkel tours with those traditional wooden boats if you like to explore a little deeper in the water.
Jemeluk Bay
Jemeluk Bay is probably the most famous spot to go snorkeling. It’s a shallow bay with beautiful corals and calm water, so perfect for a nice snorkel experience. Don’t miss the underwater temple in this bay!

Pyramids snorkel spot
Pyramids Snorkel Spot is one of the best spots to swim with sea turtles. There are shallow and deeper areas, ideal for looking for these fascinating animals. You have the best chance of spotting them in the afternoon. You can go into the water right in front of Warung Bobo. If you see a sea turtle, please keep your distance and NEVER touch them.

4. Bukit Cinta Viewpoint
Wake up early and watch a beautiful sunrise from Bukit Cinta. From this viewpoint, you have a magical view of Mount Agung and the surrounding rice fields. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Amed and you can easily park along the road to get to this free(!) viewpoint! It was definitely one of our favorite views in Bali.

5. Lahangan Sweet
Another great viewpoint near Amed is Lahangan Sweet. It is located on top of a hill, offering a wonderful view of Mount Agung from different viewpoints. The most famous one is the tree platform. Climb up the ladder and enjoy a magnificent view over the rice fields, the volcano, and its surroundings.
For the best lighting and to avoid the crowds, it is best to visit this viewpoint at sunrise.
It is located about a 30-minute drive from Amed. From the car park, it is a 15-minute walk up a quite steep path. Alternatively, you can take a jeep shuttle for 50.000 IDR.
Practical
Entrance is 75.000 IDR

Lahangan Sweet is daily open from 06:00 am - 08:00 pm
Tip: Talking about viewpoints on Mount Agung: The Lempuyang Temple or ‘Gate of Heaven’ is probably the most famous Mount Agung Viewpoint in Bali. However, you have to wait and queue for hours to take a photo. We therefore recommend that you go to one of the above viewpoints to enjoy the views!
6. Taman Ujung

Taman Ujung is a beautiful water palace nearby Amed. It was built in 1909 by the King of Karangasem and designed by a Dutch and Chinese architect. Because it is a very popular place, we recommend that you visit as early as possible. If you have time to visit just one water palace, we recommend exploring the much more quite and beautiful Taman Ujung,

8. Climb Mount Batur or Mount Agung
For the most beautiful 360° views over the surroundings of northeast Bali, you can climb up Mount Batur or Mount Agung. Watching the sunrise from one of these two volcanos is a moment you will never forget. The hike up Mount Batur is relatively easy. Hiking up Mount Agung is more of a challenge and takes around 6 hours. It is the highest point of Bali and definitely not an easy hike. The hike is steep, tough, and sometimes dangerous but the views from the top are absolutely worth the effort.
For both of these hikes, we recommend joining a guided tour.

9. Watch the sunset
In Amed, you can witness some spectacular sunsets from different places in town. We can definitely recommend watching the sunset from Sunset Point. You can see the sun disappear behind the mountain, while the sky changes color above the sea and the black beach.
Although you have to spend a minimum of 100k per person, you do have a beautiful view and you can also enjoy a refreshing dip in their infinity pools with a cocktail in hand.
