Bardenas Reales is a stunning semi-desert natural park with a very unique landscape. It is characterized by eroded cliffs, clay badlands, and impressive rock formations that has been shaped by centuries of wind and water erosion. 

In the park of Bardenas Reales, you can enjoy a variety of activities such as hiking and mountain biking. Fun fact: this truly impressive landscape is also the perfect filming location for movies and TV shows, including Game of Thrones.

How to get there

You can explore Bardenas Reales on foot, by bike or by car. Cars and bikes are only allowed to drive on the signed routes. Hikers can use all tracks and paths except for those where it is prohibited.

Camping

Overnight camping is not allowed. But you can find some spots on Park4Night in the area.

San Sebastian

San Sebastian is a charming seaside town that’s famous for its stunning beaches, delicious food, and vibrant culture.

From the top of the hill, you can see all of San Sebastian, including La Concha Beach, the Old Town, and the surrounding hills and forests.

Bilbao

If you’re looking for a city that combines traditional charm with modern flair, Bilbao is your place to be! This vibrant Spanish city is famous for its impressive architecture, delicious food, and lively atmosphere.

Of course, a visit to Bilbao wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the world-famous Guggenheim Museum. This iconic building is a work of art in itself, and inside you’ll find an big collection of contemporary art.

Ah, Picos de Europa, as mountain lovers this is probably our favorite part of northern Spain!

From hiking and rock climbing to skiing and caving, there are a lot of outdoor activities to enjoy in Picos de Europa.

The best part of Picos de Europa? The breathtaking views, of course! With dramatic mountain peaks, crystal-clear lakes, and beautiful lush green valleys, the scenery in Picos de Europa is truly jaw-dropping.

Tip: in Riaño, there’s a swing perched high atop a cliff, overlooking the breathtaking reservoir. While you swing high above the water, you can take in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Las Medulas

42° 27′ N, 06° 46′ W​

Las Médulas is definitely a must-visit place in northern Spain if you love nature and history. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is an old gold-mining town and the stunning red cliffs were shaped by centuries of mining activity. The views here are truly breathtaking.

You can also enter one of the old mining tunnels, called ‘Galerias’, and enjoy a beautiful view from the end of the tunnel, facing the red cliffs.

We parked at "Parking Mirador de Orellan", from there it's a 10minute walk to the Garalias and the viewpoint of Orellan over the Médulas.
