About Slap Kozjak
Slap Kozjak is a stunning 15-meter-high waterfall hidden within a rocky gorge in the Kobarid Forest of Slovenia. It originates from the Kozjak stream, a tributary of the famous Soča River.
The stream carves its way through a narrow gorge before plunging into a deep, emerald pool, creating a secluded and mystical atmosphere that makes Slap Kozjak one of Slovenia’s most scenic natural places. Despite gaining popularity in recent years, it still feels like a well-kept secret, with an otherworldly vibe.
The hike to Slap Kozjak is just as remarkable as the waterfall itself. It takes you along the turquoise waters of the Soča River, across picturesque bridges, and past scenic creeks. It’s not a demanding hike and is officially open from April 2nd to October 31st.

How to get there
To get to Slap Kozjak, you’ll first have to get to Parking Kozjak, Parking Kozjak 2, or Kamp Koren, from where you can start the hike to the waterfall.
As Slap Kozjak is located in the Goriška-Tolmin region, which is relatively remote compared to other areas of Slovenia, there are not many public transportation options available in this area. That’s why the easiest way to get to Slap Kozjak is by car. This also gives you the flexibility to visit more beautiful places in Slovenia during a nice road trip. If you don’t have your own car, we highly recommend you rent a car with RentalCars.com or a Campervan with Roadsufer.
Parking
You can choose between 2 parking lots to park your car: Parking Kozjak or Parking Kozjak 2. The parking fee for both parking lots is €1,5 per hour or €10 for a whole day. You can either pay by card, the Easy Park app, or cash. Don’t skip paying, as we’ve heard that local police check several times a day and issue fines of up to €70.
Campers can only park on Parking Kozjak 2.
If you are exploring Slovenia by campervan or tent, you can stay at Kamp Koren and start your hike to Slap Kozjak from here. This will save you the parking costs.<
The hike to Slap Kozjak
From the parking lot, follow the signs to Slap Kozjak. The trail is well-marked throughout. The hike starts with a walk through meadows dotted with beehives, then continues into the forest. As you wind through the trees, you’ll get some stunning views of the turquoise-blue Soča River.
Further along, the path bends to the right. Continue on, and you’ll pass a small waterfall called Little Kozjak or Mali Kozjak waterfall, which cascades underneath you while walking over a stone bridge. After taking in the beauty of this waterfall, keep following the trail and signs until you reach the ticket office.
Pay the entrance fee, then follow the river across a series of stone and wooden bridges. The trail eventually leads you into the gorge, where you’ll discover the stunning Slap Kozjak.
