Hiking guide about Offersoykammen

The hike

To hike up Offersøykammen, you can choose between a short and steep hike (2,3km) or a longer and less steep hike (4km). They start from two different parking lots but have the second section in common, which is pretty steep for both.

The short Offersøykammen hike starts from the Skreda resting area, where you can park your car. From here, the original trail starts about 600 meters to the east along the E10. You find the original start of the short trail here.  Besides the original trail, some new trails have been formed from the Skreda parking lot going almost directly up the hillside instead of walking along the road to the start of the original trail. The different trails are clearly visible and will all come together to the second section of the hike up to the summit of the Offersøykammen.

The longer hike starts at the parking lot right in front of the east side of the Nappstraumen tunnel. When facing Offersøykammen, you start hiking at the left of the parking lot, where the trail takes you over the tunnel. You can find the start of the longer trail here. From here you follow the trail uphill until you arrive on top of the ridge, where you turn right. Keep following the trail over the ridge until you arrive at the start of the second section, going up to the summit of Offersøykammen.

The second part of the hike is pretty straightforward. It is a rocky, steep, and sometimes slippery trail. It will split up a couple of times, but as long as you keep heading uphill, you will eventually end up at the summit, where you can enjoy some incredible views! Know that the last part of the path flattens out a bit, making it seem like you can see the top a few times and think you’re almost there, while you’re not. Don’t let this discourage you, the views are absolutely worth the effort!

When to hike

The hiking season for the Offersøykammen hike runs from May to September. During winter the trail is covered in snow and ice making it more difficult to hike Offersøykammen in winter.

It is not recommended to hike in bad weather conditions as the trail might get slippery. This hike is best done on a sunny and clear day or during a clear midnight sun night.

Note that this is a very popular hike in Lofoten Islands, even among locals. So there is a good chance that you will meet a lot of other people during this hike.
