About the Nungnung Waterfall

The Nungnung waterfall is located in the center of Bali, near the village of Nungnung in the Tabanan Regency. It is a quite impressive waterfall, with a height of around 50 meters and known as one of the most powerful waterfalls of Bali. You will defnitely get wet by the spray caused by this waterfall, so protect your belongings well.

Because of its more secluded location, this waterfall tends to be less crowded than the more famous waterfalls closer to the popular tourist areas like Ubud. If you want to be almost certain that you have the waterfall just for yourself, we recommend that you go as early in the morning as possible.

To reach this waterfall, you have to descend a series of 500 steps into a lush green canyon, with some steep sections. The way back up can therefore be quite difficult, but we can assure you that this waterfall is definitely worth it! Don’t forget to bring enough water and snacks.

There is a natural swimming pool at the foot of the waterfall. If you want to take a dip, you have to be careful because the power of the waterfall is enormous and can hurt you. You will not find any facilities at the bottom of the waterfall. There are only toilets, changing rooms and a restaurant at the parking area.

The hike to the waterfall

The path to the waterfall is clear and consists of a long staircase of about 500 steps. You descend into a green gorge, so you walk through beautiful jungle surroundings with tropicals plants the entire time. On your way, you pass a couple of smaller waterfalls as well. Some sections can be steep and slippery, so always be careful when descending. Just before the last part, you have to cross a bridge to the other side of the gorge. From here, it is only a short distance to the waterfall.
At the waterfall you can cross a small bridge again to get to the bottom of the waterfall. Be careful because the rocks you have to cross on the very last part can be very slippery.

The hike is not that long and takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the bottom waterfall. The way back up can be exhausting and takes more like 25-30 minutes. Along the trail, there are some shelter benches to take a rest.
